Rammed Earth House
Taihape Road, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand The soil used for this project was excavated from the site, mixed with cement and then rammed between shutters to construct the 300 mm thick walls. Most of the timber is native (framing: Macrocarpa, large timber truss rafters: Totara, T&G flooring: Ht Matia, board and battening: NZ Redwood). The roof was insulated with wool produced in NZ. A nice quiet house, cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
